As we turn the page to Spring & Summer 2022, hair is taking a big step up.  Afterall this is the first real full-on, out there in public, season since the shutdown.  So, everything about hair is “next level”.  Both in styling and organic ingredient technology.  This season, consumers are not only interested in showstopping styles but also tech-smart ingredients while not abandoning their desire for organic and green oriented products.  Three of the sought after trends this season are the surprising texture comeback of sleek hair, artisanal braided styles and a rich aubergine hair color.  All of which need the support and enhancement from what we believe are futuristic ingredients, as mentioned in my previous column in 2022.
 

Sleek Hair

While natural texture is still an extremely prominent and important trend, Spring & Summer 2022 texture trends welcome the addition of a sleeker look and feel.  Styles range from silky smooth blowouts with the current ‘GenZ approved’ dead straight center part, a` la Naomi Campbell.  To glossy hair slicked back off the face starting at the front hairline, held firmly in place while maintaining a glassy sheen.  Whether worn down, half up, or swept up into a chic chignon, you will not see nary a messy or textured bun this season.

Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2022 takes one of the top spots for this season’s hair color trends. And application techniques range from all-over single application, balayage, or a single bold ribbon highlight peeking out from behind the ear or the nape.

Hopefully hair braiding skills are still top notch from all the practice during the shutdown because this season braided hairstyles are on trend.  Several styles are runway and real way favorites.  Face framing braids with an easy, 70’s vibe, coming off the now trending straight center part.  Long braided ponytails sometimes bound or interwoven with ribbon or cord.  And sculpted braided updo’s with almost a Medusa-like or Grecian goddess type quality.
